Could Jalen Williams win 2025 NBA Finals MVP over Shai Gilgeous-Alexander?

The Thunder are only one win away from a title.

Questions have already been discussed about who would win the Finals MVP award.

Who would win Finals MVP?

It would seem obvious that SGA would win Finals MVP after winning the regular season MVP and playing incredibly in the Finals.

I wouldn't rush to that conclusion so fast, because there might be another Thunder player in the running for the award if OKC wins the title.

Jalen Williams had an all-time NBA Finals performance in Game 5, leading the way to a 3-2 series lead.

Williams has averaged 25.8 PPG, 5.6 RPG and 4.2 APG this series.

He has stepped up in the last three games, especially with his scoring and efficiency on shots in wins during Games 4 & 5.

This wouldn't be the first time a 'second option' won the Finals MVP.

Just last year, Jaylen Brown took home the award over Jayson Tatum because of his stellar Finals performance.

Shai hasn't struggled as Tatum did in some games, but it's the same concept of a player stepping up who's not typically the number one most reliant player on their team.

Even Andre Iguodala won a Finals MVP over Steph Curry in 2015 for how well he played his role.

SGA is averaging 32.4 PPG, 4.6 RPG, 5.0 APG, 2.4 SPG and 1.8 BPG, so it will be tough for Williams to take home the award despite having a chance.

It all depends on how the next game or two play out, as nothing is set in stone yet, especially with OKC needing to win a game for this scenario to play out.
