It's not even immediately clear that people were wondering about this.

But there's an update on where Auston Matthews wants to play in his NHL future after spending his entire tenure in the league so far with one team, the Toronto Maple Leafs.

According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, Matthews doesn't want to go anywhere.

Specifically, Friedman said he "bets" Matthews wants to stay put.

It's been a tough season for the Leafs, so maybe that's why there's some speculation on what the captain might want.

He has played all 10 of his NHL seasons, with 676 games and counting, for the Maple Leafs.

In that time, Matthews has 427 goals and 345 assists to account for 772 points.

He has led the NHL in goals three times, and in even strength goals five times.

Matthews is also a pretty quality shot blocker, and he is on the ice more than a third of each game on average for the Maple Leafs.

At 28 years old, the star center still has a lot of good hockey in front of him. He currently has two more seasons existing on his current contract, and at some point, it'll make sense for Toronto to give him yet another extension.

After Mitch Marner left last offseason, maybe the Maple Leafs' fanbase is worried about another exodus.

But at least right now, it seems like Matthews is content to stay put.
