The chief operating officer of the High Museum of Art – an institution that featured in “The Resident” and “Black Panther” – has resigned after $600,000 was allegedly stolen, according to reports.
Brady Lum allegedly stole the funds over three to four years and a probe into the missing money was launched in early December after discrepancies were spotted on the Atlanta museum’s finance sheets, as reported by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Hala Moddelmog – the president of Woodruff, the company which oversees the High – suspects the executive, who earned $312,374 for his role and was the fifth-highest paid employee, acted alone before claiming he abused his role.
“We believe that Lum abused his executive level position at the High to access the money and hide what he did for several years,” she said.
It’s not known where the money was stolen from, but the museum’s donors have already been informed.
The US Attorney’s Office in Atlanta has not decided whether charges will be issued.
Lum, who issued his resignation on Dec. 9, joined The High in 2019 following stints with Coca-Cola and Special Olympics International.
In 2014, he was appointed the senior vice president of Coca-Cola/Keurig Ventures North America.
The museum features more than 20,000 works of art and has featured in shows such as “The Resident” and the 2018 Marvel movie “Black Panther.”
In “Black Panther,” the museum was the location for the fictional Museum of Great Britain, where Erik Killmonger and Ulysses Klaue joined forces to steal rare African artefacts.
The museum was the location for Chastain Park Memorial Hospital in “The Resident.”
A shoot for the Apple TV+ series “Cape Fear” was shot near The High in May last year and locals were warned to expect film crews in the area.
Lum didn’t respond to requests for comment.
