Edmonton Oilers fans on social media were irate following the team’s dismal 5-1 loss to the Eastern Conference’s bottom-place Buffalo Sabres on Monday.

Despite dominating the Sabres 33-28 on shots attempted, the Oilers managed to put one goal past them, thanks to Jack Roslovic, who tied it 1-1 at 4:29 of the second period.

As for the Sabres, they won their back-to-back games, having previously defeated the Detroit Red Wings 5-4 in overtime on Saturday. Here's how Edmonton Oilers fans on X (formerly called Twitter) reacted to the defeat.

One tweeted:

"McDavid gonna opt out of his contract."

Another chimed in:

"Just when you think this team can’t fall any lower they ‘step down’ their game."

Here are some of the other top reactions on X:

"This team is embarrassing themselves on a never seen before level. Nobody looks inspired to even try to win. It's no wonder McDavid didn't sign long term, he's outta here as soon as possible," a third fan wrote. "Garbage effort. Garbage goaltending. Garbage coaching. Garbage GM," one disgruntled fan posted. "Stan Bowman & Jeff Jackson should feel ashamed about how Connor get run over every game & this team have no toughness," another X user wrote. "I don’t often criticize them, but that was pathetic. Just going through the motions. I sure miss Kane and Perry," another chimed in.
