Commanders, Vikings could pull off blockbuster trade with Dolphins after Jaylen Waddle deal

When it comes to the Miami Dolphins' roster and the team unloading players in trades, all bets are now off.

That's because the Dolphins traded one of the few assets they have left in wideout Jaylen Waddle, who is going to the Denver Broncos in a trade that involved four selections in the 2026 NFL draft, including a first-rounder going to Miami.

The full trade saw the Dolphins get Denver's picks in the first, third and fourth rounds in this year's draft in exchange for Waddle and Miami's fourth-rounder.

After seeing that blockbuster trade, you can bet your bottom dollar teams will be calling the Dolphins about running back De'Von Achane, who is easily the Dolphins' top asset.

Achane is coming off a career-best season in 2025 that was made more impressive by the fact that he accomplished that feat despite having almost nothing around him.

One of the NFL's most explosive weapons, Achane tallied 1,350 rushing yards, 488 receiving yards and 12 total touchdowns en route to earning his first Pro Bowl nod.

Two teams we'd expect to have interest in Achane if he's made available are the Washington Commanders and Minnesota Vikings.

The Commanders have added to their running backs room this offseason and that group now includes Jacory Croskey-Merritt, Rachaad White, Jerome Ford, and Jeremy McNichols, but that's not exactly an inspiring group.

Adding Achane would be a massive upgrade over anyone the Commanders have and he would help take a ton of pressure off Jayden Daniels while adding an explosive element to the rushing and passing attacks.

In Minnesota, things aren't looking too great, either.

The Vikings agreed to a revised contract with Aaron Jones, but he's also going to be 32 years old this year and is coming off an injury-plagued season. Backing Jones up is veteran Jordan Mason and second-year back Zavier Scott.

Safe to say, the Vikings could use more juice in the backfield, something Achane would provide in a big way.

As we saw with the Waddle trade, the Dolphins aren't just going to give away their best asset. Reports suggested Miami needed a king's ransom to let Waddle go and they got that from Denver.

We'd expect the same for Achane, and that means a first-round pick and then some will likely be what it takes to get that done. Then, the acquiring team would have to extend Achane on a lucrative, long-term deal.

Given their cap space, the Commanders are best equipped to be able to do all that.
