Commanders predicted to sign former troubled NFL player who has been out of league for 3 years

The Washington Commanders completely overhauled their entire culture when Josh Harris bought the team from Dan Snyder.

Harris and company then hired former 49ers GM Adam Peters, who joined the Washington brass to hire Dan Quinn as the team’s next head coach.

That all happened last offseason, and in what feels like an overnight overhaul, the Commanders suddenly went from one of the laughing stocks of the NFL to a viable Super Bowl contender.

One of the biggest parts in righting the ship was placing culture front and center. Peters and Quinn pieced together last year’s team — that reached the NFC Championship game for the first time since 1991 —- but targeted high-character veterans who had upside when it came to talent.

The plan worked perfectly. Players like Bobby Wagner and Zach Ertz joined the few holdover staples like Terry McLaurin and Daron Payne and the Commanders bought into Quinn’s vision.

With more than two decades of dysfunction and issues both on and off the field under Snyder’s tenure as owner, it’s been abundantly clear the new folks running the Commanders won’t sacrifice culture to bring in a player that doesn’t fit their standard, no matter how talented he is.

Heading into 2025, the Washington Commanders have made it abundantly clear they believe their Super Bowl window is right now and they want to make a run at a Lombardi trophy (or two or three) before having to pay Jayden Daniels a huge chunk of cash in three years.

Peters and his staff made big moves in free agency to trade for Deeebo Samuel and Laremy Tunsil. They added veteran role players like longtime Patriots CB Jonathan Jones..  And with only five picks in the NFL Draft, Washington landed two day one starters in OT Josh Connerly Jr. and CB Trey Amos, while using the other three picks on players that have a chance to contribute immediately.

There have been recent reports surfacing about former Las Vegas Raiders CB Damon Annette attempting a NFL comeback after shining in the UFL.

Initially, injury issues hampered the former second-round pick, but then a series of bizarre behaviors and legal issues ended his NFL career early. After a video surfaced of Annette brandishing a firearm and threatening people, the Raiders released him during his second NFL season.  He had brief stints with the Miami Dolphins and the Kansas City Chiefs, but never could get it right. Shortly after the Chiefs released him, Annette was arrested on multiple charges.

While it’s hard to see the Commanders gambling on a player with such a checkered past, Anthony Palacios of Last Word on Sports believes Washington could be an ideal landing spot.

They have a great thing going on in their offense, but the same can’t be said about the secondary unit. Despite signing Jonathan Jones, he’s only on for a one-year deal and needs a capable replacement after losing Benjamin St-Juste. Arnette might not win the starting job, but it provides relief for veteran Marshon Lattimore, who has injury issues.
