Commanders' biggest draft need has huge Jayden Daniels flavor

The Washington Commanders, so far this offseason, have done all they can to improve the defense, but make no mistake about it, the offense needs help, too.

Jayden Daniels is facing a big 2026 season after an injury-interrupted 2025 season, and for him to be able to get back to what he was in his rookie season, he needs help.

Which brings us to the NFL Draft, where the Commanders hold the No. 7 overall pick and could select offensive talent if they choose to go that way.

And for NFL.com's Dan Parr, getting Daniels some receiver help should be high on the to-do list.

"GM Adam Peters and head coach Dan Quinn did most of their free-agent shopping on defense this offseason," Parr wrote. "So, will they double down in that area during the draft or spend their early picks on help for Jayden Daniels? There’s a need for a No. 2 receiver who can play opposite Terry McLaurin and pick up chunk yardage."

Who should Commanders target?

It will depend on what Washington deems as a need. Do they need another receiver alongside Terry McLaurin as Parr suggests? Or do they need a Zach Ertz replacement at tight end?

Personally, it will likely be down to Carnell Tate and Jordyn Tyson, but taking a receiver so high at No. 7 can be seen as a little bit of a risk.

But the Commanders know Daniels needs help, and getting a pass-catching weapon early feels like the right way to go. After all, the franchise will only go as far as Daniels takes them, which they hope will be into the playoffs in 2026.

To do that, Daniels needs weapons around him, and while McLaurin is a stud, he needs a running mate to help push this offense along.
