Blue Jays' Ernie Clement is on fire, and doing it his way

1 hour ago 3

The Toronto Blue Jays had the game get away from them Wednesday at the Los Angeles Angels, but before that happened, Ernie Clement did his thing.

With a runner on second and two outs, Clement reached out for a breaking ball off the plate and poked it up the middle to tie the game.

It was his third single of the game, and it continued a super hot stretch for Clement.

Dating back to April 16, Clement is on a seven-game hitting streak.

In that span, he's 12-for-30, which is a .400 batting average.

Clement hasn't just been a singles hitter, either. Five of those hits in the hitting streak have been doubles.

It's been an interesting stretch for Clement, who has been hitting either first or second in the order since George Springer went down with an injury.

He's not a modern-age early-order hitter, because he doesn't walk. But Clement makes so much contact and places it so well that he hits for a strong enough average to offset a lack of walks.

It's also a crucial skill in moments like that one above, when there are two outs and somehow that run has to get home. Clement's contact skills seem to have delivered again and again lately.

If he keeps this up, the Blue Jays will certainly be happy with that.
