"Come be a coach for us CP3" - Fans Dissect Victor Wembanyama's Message to Chris Paul During Heartfelt Courtside Embrace

On Saturday, Victor Wembanyama led the San Antonio Spurs to their first-ever finals appearance in the Emirates NBA Cup. After the game, Wembanyama caught up with a former teammate who has dominated the headlines as of late.

Cameras caught the French phenom exchanging words and having a warm embrace with Chris Paul, the former Spurs guard who was unceremeniously let go by the LA Clippers just days ago. Both Wemby and CP3 were aware that the TV broadcast could capture the audio of their brief conversation, and as such, the two ex-teammates covered their mouths as they spoke.

Fans couldn't quite understand what Wembanyama and Paul were talking about, and so, they decided to fill in the gaps.

"Come be a coach for us CP3 and win a ring," one fan speculated.

Other fans were more straightforward in their desire to see Paul suit up once more for the Spurs, the team that had signed him in the 2024-25 season.

"He should retire a spur fs," one fan commented.

After introducing himself to the NBA in the 2023-24 campaign, Wembanyama got the privilege to learn under Paul for a year. A month into the regular season, the Spurs big man called his dynamic with Paul "a really healthy relationship" because they see the sport "pretty much the same way."

This past June, the 12-time All-Star appeared on "The Pat McAfee Show" and dished out praise for Wembanyama.

"He just loves the game. He loves to hoop. I think the Spurs are going to be great," Paul said of Wemby.

Paul went on to sign with the LA Clippers, but at the moment, his NBA future is in limbo. Many fans, though, know exactly where they want CP3 to wrap up his storied career.

As for Wembanyama, his NBA career is just getting started. On Saturday, he made his return from a calf injury and became one of four Spurs to score at least 22 points in San Antonio's 111-109 win.

After catching up with Paul at courtside, Wemby talked about the pride that he takes in continuing the legacy of Spurs ball.

"I’m just glad to be part of something that’s growing to be so beautiful: pure and ethical basketball," Wembanyama said.

Since the heyday of coach Gregg Popovich and Tim Duncan, the Spurs have strived to maintain the ideal of fundamentally sound, team-oriented offense and defense. Wembanyama, who spent time learning under Popovich as well, is clearly happy to continue this tradition.
