Colin Cowherd doubles down on J.J. McCarthy critique with "UPS driver" comparison despite Vikings QB's historic performance

J.J. McCarthy led the Minnesota Vikings to a 27-24 win over the Detroit Lions in Week 9 on Sunday. McCarthy went 14 of 25 for 143 yards with two touchdowns and an interception, along with 12 yards and a rushing TD, to guide Minnesota to its fourth win of the season.

However, analyst Colin Cowherd still isn't sold on McCarthy.

"My take on J.J. McCarthy, he was good on script," Cowherd said on his "The Herd" show on Monday. "First quarter, 141 passer rating, rest of the game his passer rating was 38. ... I felt like I was watching Michigan's McCarthy, don't screw it up and make one big throw."

Cowherd also drew comparisons between a "UPS driver" and McCarthy as part of his analogy.

"He (McCarthy) is like the UPS driver," Cowherd said. "I don't know who he is, but they always deliver on time. The package is never sc*ewed up. I love the delivery system, I don't know if the UPS driver is any good."

Earlier in the season, Cowherd suggested that McCarthy looked completely overwhelmed after just two games. It appears that the analyst has now doubled down on the criticizing the second-year QB, who missed his entire rookie season due to a knee injury.

McCarthy made NFL history on Sunday, becoming the first player to have at least two touchdown passes and one rushing touchdown in two of a player’s first three career games.
