Cody Rhodes debuted a new finisher to beat a 40-year-old WWE star. Since winning the WWE Undisputed Championship for a second time, one man has proven to be a constant source of pain for him.
That man is none other than the Scottish Psychopath Drew McIntyre. Despite losing in both Title matches to Rhodes, McIntyre has remained adamant about taking the Championship from him.
The two stars clashed again, and this time at a live event in Baltimore, with the American Nightmare putting his WWE Championship on the line in a No Disqualification match.
A hard-hitting contest saw both stars gain the upper hand at one point or another until the finish. The ending of the match saw Rhodes debut a new finisher as he launched himself from the top rope with a splash and crashed through a table with McIntyre sprawling on it.
He then covered the 40-year-old and got the three-count to retain his Title. Surprisingly, he chose not to try and connect his usual finisher, Cross Rhodes, to secure the win; instead he went for the top rope splash to end the match.
You can watch the video below as Cody hits his new finisher around the 18:26 mark.
It remains to be seen whether Rhodes adds the top rope splash as a secondary finisher in his matches going forward.
Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre set for epic battle
Last week on SmackDown, General Manager Nick Aldis informed Cody Rhodes that if he laid his hands on McIntyre, he would be stripped of his Title.
However, things between the two stars escalated this week on SmackDown, which was a taped show. In the main event, they came face-to-face as the Scottish Warrior revealed the Three Stages of Hell stipulation for their Title match, which will take place on January 9, 2026, in Berlin.
During the segment, McIntyre tried to goad Cody Rhodes into attacking him and made personal remarks about his family. The segment ended with the Scottish star standing tall after a Claymore Kick to the Champion.
