It wasn't an ideal opening day for Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees, although the team came away with an impressive win against the San Francisco Giants. Judge failed to reach base and struck out four times.
While it was disappointing, it's obvious that Judge is one of the best players in baseball history, and Cody Bellinger's comments after that game were perfect for what actually goes on in the mind of players.
“When you’re arguably the greatest, people expect great things,” Bellinger said. “And throughout 162 [games], great things are gonna happen.”
However, Judge made history in that rough showing.
According to The Real App, Judge is now tied for the most games in New York Yankees history with four or more strikeouts in a single game. It’s a surprising stat on the surface, especially considering what Judge has done in his career.
However, we have to think about how much the game has changed over the past few years. Strikeouts are not as big of a deal as they once were, and with Judge seeing the best of every pitcher in baseball, it's expected that he's going to find himself in some tough situations here and there.
To respond after a tough Opening Day, Judge hit a home run in Friday's win.
