CM Punk may have dropped an interesting hint about the future on his first night as World Heavyweight Champion. The Second City Saint opened this week's episode of Monday Night RAW, addressing his victory over Jey Uso at Saturday Night's Main Event XLI.

CM Punk vowed to be a fighting champion, mentioning several names as potential challengers. One of them was John Cena, as The Best in the World called out his longtime rival to try and become an 18-time World Champion against him.

Following the show, a Fightful Select report emerged, suggesting that there have been internal discussions about crowning Cena as champion once again before his retirement.

John Cena's last opponent leaked? Check here!

The 5-time United States Champion only has four appearances left in his Farewell Tour. As announced on SNME XLI, a 16-man Last Time is Now Tournament will begin on next week's RAW to determine Cena's final opponent in WWE on December 13.

The Franchise Player is set to be in attendance on next week's RAW, which will mark his final appearance in his hometown of Boston, Massachusetts, as an in-ring competitor. To make the night even more special, the Triple H-led creative team could book a title match between CM Punk and John Cena.

In a shocking turn of events, The Never Seen 17 could break his own record and become an 18-time World Champion in WWE. This would raise the stakes for his final bout in December, as it could potentially be for the World Heavyweight Championship.

That said, while it could be exciting, this scenario is only based on speculation.

CM Punk faced John Cena at Night of Champions 2025

CM Punk and John Cena renewed their rivalry earlier this year, as The Second City Saint challenged The Franchise Player for the Undisputed WWE Championship at Night of Champions.

Leading up to the event, the bitter rivals went all out to make their bout special. Cena recreated Punk's iconic Pipebomb promo, to which The Best in the World responded by dropping some "Basic Punkanomics" on The Last Real Champion the following week.

Cena ultimately retained the title, taking advantage of The Vision's interference. After CM Punk mentioned The Cenation Leader on RAW, fans are hoping for them to lock horns once again.

With only four appearances left before John Cena hangs up his wrestling boots, it will be interesting to see if the Triple H-led creative team books him in another world title match.
