Phillies predicted to battle Dodgers, Giants for Kyle Tucker in free agency

The Philadelphia Phillies are coming off a rough end to their 2025 season, falling short to the eventual World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers.

But that battle against Los Angeles might not be the only time these two teams face off since the 2025 regular season came to a close.

ESPN MLB insider Jeff Passan predicts that the Phillies and Dodgers, along with the San Francisco Giants, will all duke it out for free agent outfielder Kyle Tucker.

"Tucker falls in that interesting bucket where he will rightly demand a contract in excess of $300 million," Passan writes, "but the number of teams willing to pay that will limit his options. The Dodgers and Giants make sense, as do the Phillies."

This winter, Dave Dombrowski can't sit still and not make any major changes to the roster. If Kyle Schwarber departs, then replacing his offensive production is even more imperative.

But, regardless of Schwarber's decision, the Phillies could still explore a Tucker contract. It won't come cheap, but the Phillies' recent playoff exits should make the front office reconsider whether they can keep things the way they are.

Their decision with Nick Castellanos points towards the outfield spots being up in the air, and Tucker would be a great fit in the lineup. Philadelphia needs to bolster the offense, and Tucker is the best option for the Phillies in free agency.

He's coming off another strong year, this time with the Chicago Cubs. He played in 136 games, hitting .266 with an .841 OPS. That was a down year for Tucker, pointing to just how great he can be when he's fully healthy.

If the Phillies could extend Schwarber and bring in Tucker, the offense would be massively improved. With young players like Andrew Painter, Aidan Miller, and Justin Crawford coming up, the Phillies can save a lot of money for those positions.

A Tucker deal won't come cheap, especially with the Dodgers and Giants driving up the price tag. But if Dombrowski gets the green light from John Middleton, a Tucker contract would be a huge addition for the Phillies.
