Clippers named offseason landing spot for $101 million Lakers four-time NBA champion

The Los Angeles Clippers aren’t serious title contenders this year despite being in the mix for a playoff spot.

However, the Clippers were recently linked to an offseason signing for a Los Angeles Lakers four-time NBA champion, which would undoubtedly set the franchise up for high-level success in 2026-27.

“The idea of LeBron in an LA Clippers uniform is hard to fathom, even to James,” ESPN’s Dave McMenamin and Tim Bontemps wrote Tuesday.

“When asked last month what it meant to play the All-Star Game in L.A. -- hosted by the Clippers at Intuit Dome and not the Lakers at Crypto.com Arena -- he made that clear. However, if James played for the Clippers, he could get all the same off-court benefits as staying with the Lakers. He could also theoretically make more money.”

“Several team personnel around the league speculated that if the NBA's investigation into Kawhi Leonard's Aspiration endorsement deal ended up with Leonard's contract being voided as a punishment, James could sign with the Clippers for more than the Lakers would offer him.”

As McMenamin and Bontemps stated, it’s difficult to envision James leaving the Lakers for the Clippers, of all teams. That said, with the perfect offer/pitch, the Clippers could entice the future Hall of Famer to finish his career with a franchise yearning for its first-ever championship.

The Clippers wouldn’t be without competition, though, as several contending franchises will undoubtedly be vying for James’ services this summer. Right now, James’ sole focus is on doing everything they can to help the Lakers capture a title this season.
