With the USMNT’s 2-0 friendly loss to Portugal on Tuesday night, the U.S. has now lost 10 straight games to European nations across all competitions. Their last win came against Bosnia and Herzegovina in December 2021, over four years ago. Current manager Mauricio Pochettino has yet to lead the Stars and Stripes to victory over a European team, as the last win came under former manager Gregg Berhalter.

When did the USMNT last beat a European team?

The USMNT's last victory against a European team came on Dec. 18, 2021, under former manager Gregg Berhalter. On that day, the Americans were able to beat Bosnia and Herzegovina 1-0 in a friendly. 

Portland Timbers' midfielder Cole Bassett was able to put the U.S. ahead in the dying minutes with a goal in the 89th minute, just 11 minutes after appearing on the pitch as a sub. The U.S. dominated possession during this game, holding the ball for 74% of the game's duration. Both teams had three shots on target, but the Americans had 10 total shots compared to Bosnia and Herzegovina's nine. The U.S. was also able to complete 87% of its passes, versus the Eastern Europeans' 63%.

Turkey is right behind the U.S. at +180 odds. According to betting odds, the U.S. should have no trouble qualifying for the knockout stages, with -575 odds to advance out of its group.
