Clay Matthews finally opens up about facial transformation

Clay Matthews has been turning heads after his latest over-the-top facial transformation, and fans are finally getting the answers to why.

The former Green Bay Packers star has been photographed walking around New York City with exaggerated cheekbones and a chin, where he is nearly unrecognizable. At first, fans believed it was a possibility that the Super Bowl champion decided to change his appearance, but it was never confirmed until now what was actually going on behind the scenes.

Matthews spoke to TMZ on Sept. 9 and shared that it was a hilarious take on the"looksmaxxing" trend, but it's nothing but prosthetics. The former NFL star is partnering with Caesars Sportsbook for the look. He told the outlet he had to sit in a chair for four hours to complete the outrageous appearance. The betting app shared a video of Matthews sitting in the makeup chair, showing how they created the look.

The former NFL star shared in a press release that this was nothing like he's done before, but it was interesting to see it all come together.

“I’ve done a lot of things throughout my career, but this was definitely a first. The second I heard the idea, I was in,” Matthews said in a press release.

“The makeup, the prosthetics, the whole concept was completely over the top, and we had a lot of fun bringing it to life.”

While Matthews has been trending for this new look, he is best known for his stellar accomplishments on the football field. He spent 10 seasons with Green Bay and won a Super Bowl in 2010. Matthews later retired in 2019 after a stint with the Los Angeles Rams. He was later inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame in 2024.
