In the midst of the second week of free agency, former New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs is the best available player at his position.
Diggs was cut loose by the Patriots earlier this month, but the reason was related to finances. Diggs, who tallied over 1,000 yards last season, had a big cap hit for 2026 that the Patriots weren't willing to keep on their books.
After an unsuccessful negotiation to try and lower that cap hit, the Patriots decided to cut ties with the four-time Pro Bowl receiver.
When it comes to Diggs' next landing spot in free agency, Last Word on Sports' David Latham believes that the Kansas City Chiefs, Baltimore Ravens and Los Angeles Rams as the most likely new homes for the veteran wideout.
"The Baltimore Ravens have one of the league’s most talented rosters, but they could use more help at wide receiver," Latham said. "Zay Flowers is more than capable of being the top option in the passing attack, but Rashod Bateman is too inconsistent for a contending team. While the team missed out on most of the big-name free agents, they could still take a shot at Stefon Diggs."
"On paper, the Los Angeles Rams have one of the league’s best wide receiver duos in Puka Nacua and Davante Adams. Most teams would be happy with this elite pairing, but Sean McVay’s Rams are not most teams. Los Angeles is reportedly trying to trade for veteran pass-catcher A.J. Brown as the team goes all-in on the end of Matthew Stafford’s career," Latham said of the Rams.
"The Chiefs could be in quite a few shootouts next year, and they’ll need a free agent like Stefon Diggs for these high-scoring affairs. Rashee Rice is a great receiver, but the rest of the depth chart needs some work. Diggs is the best option on the open market and could be a plug-and-play option in this passing attack," he added.
The Rams are probably the least likely landing spot for Diggs considering they don't need him with Davante Adams and Puka Nacua under contract.
Granted, Los Angeles was involved in the A.J. Brown sweepstakes before pulling out, but it appears they were intent on trading Adams if that trade went down, so forming a super trio didn't appear to be in the cards.
We'd peg the Ravens as the second-most likely to sign Diggs. After all, they don't have a reliable No. 2 receiver behind Zay Flowers and Baltimore lost a talented pass-catcher in Isaiah Likely, leaving the team a bit short in that area.
The Chiefs have the biggest need at receiver of these three teams.
Kansas City has no shortage of question marks up and down the receiver depth chart, including with their No. 1, Rashee Rice, who is under investigation by the NFL over recent domestic violence allegations.
When it comes to Diggs' desires, all three of these teams would check the box of a contender, which is probably high on his priority list given he's on the back nine of his career.
