The Kansas City Chiefs have a bit of a crowded backfield.
They added to it with the seventh-round draft pick of Brashard Smith out of SMU last month.
That pick could lead to an eventual release this offseason.
Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox suggested in a new article that the Chiefs could cut Kareem Hunt. Here's his logic:
"After he led the team in rushing last season, the Kansas City Chiefs opted to bring back Kareem Hunt on a one-year, $1.5 million deal. However, Kansas City also signed Elijah Mitchell before drafting former SMU running back Brashard Smith—who has intrigued the front office.
"... Assuming Isiah Pacheco is back to pre-injury form, Hunt could be the odd man out. Releasing him would save Kansas City $632,353 in cap space."

It's that addition of Mitchell addition from San Francisco that particularly makes a Hunt cut a possibility.
With just a rookie and a returning-from-injury Pacheco, Hunt would seem safe.
But the veteran Mitchell is another possible RB weapon for Andy Reid, and it might finally be Hunt's time to head off into the sunset.
Don't count on a cut happening too soon, because running back injuries are too frequent to jump the gun on a move like this.
But if the season gets close and everyone is intact in the Kansas City backfield, Hunt could indeed be the odd man out.
