Free agency for a 32-year-old receiver coming off a Super Bowl run rarely moves this slowly. Stefon Diggs remains unsigned in mid-May, but the picture of where he ends up is starting to sharpen, and two teams keep showing up in every conversation.
The Kansas City Chiefs and Washington Commanders are the two most logical landing spots for Diggs, according to Albert Breer. Breer also mentioned the Atlanta Falcons and Los Angeles Rams as worth tracking.
Diggs, released by the New England Patriots this offseason for salary-cap reasons, is expected to sign a one-year deal in the $10 million range. The Polymarket prediction market currently lists Washington as the favorite to land him, as noted by Dov Kleiman.
Why the Commanders and Chiefs match what Diggs needs right now
Washington is the destination that makes the most personal sense. Diggs grew up in the D.C. area, and the Commanders need receiver help even if they eventually land San Francisco's Brandon Aiyuk.
A pairing of Jayden Daniels, Terry McLaurin, and Diggs would give Washington one of the more interesting passing trios in the NFC.
The Chiefs have not had a true No. 1 receiver since dealing Tyreek Hill, and last season's offense slipped enough that Kansas City missed the playoffs for the first time in over a decade.
Adding Diggs to a room with Travis Kelce, Rashee Rice, and Xavier Worthy would change defensive game plans immediately.
Breer also addressed the lingering Patriots-Diggs question.
He believes a reunion is unlikely if New England completes its expected trade for Philadelphia's A.J. Brown after June 1, which is the timing most around the league expect.
Diggs caught 85 passes for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns with the Patriots last season before being cut for cap relief.
One factor still floating in the background is the league's open personal-conduct investigation. Diggs was acquitted of assault charges brought by his former personal chef, but Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio reported the NFL probe remains open, meaning a possible suspension could be on the table.
