With the first two rounds of the NBA Playoffs concluded, it's time to look at the Conference Finals. On Monday night, the Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs will tee things off in the Western Conference Finals.
While the Thunder have been perfect so far in these playoffs, the team will be gaining even more help. Forward Jalen Williams went down in Game 2 of the first round with a Grade 1 left hamstring strain. The 2022 No. 12 overall pick shared on his YouTube channel that he will be healthy and ready to go for his team's bout against the Spurs.
San Antonio has lost some games this postseason, unlike their Western Conference Finals counterpart, but the team has looked dominant for the most part. 22-year-old superstar Victor Wembanyama has proven time and time again that he is already one of the, if not THE, best defensive player in the league in terms of blocks. During the playoffs, the Frenchman has averaged a whopping 4.1 blocks per game, a number that is greater than 2 blocks away from second place (Jarrett Allen, 1.9).
While Oklahoma City has been the season-long favorite to win this year's championship, San Antonio will be their first real test of the entire playoffs. In fact, the Spurs have beaten the Thunder four out of the teams' five meetings this season. San Antonio's average margin of victory in those games was 11.75 points, so they do have a viable shot of preventing Oklahoma City from becoming the first team to win back-to-back championships since the Golden State Warriors in 2017 and 2018.
