The Kansas City Chiefs are in a situation they haven't been in since Patrick Mahomes became the starter, and it's taking a little getting used to.
As we approach Week 16, the Chiefs have officially been eliminated from the playoffs.
That means three meaningless games are to come before the season ends, and the postseason will begin with Kansas City at home on the couch.
Plus, we add in the ACL injury Mahomes suffered that will rule him out for a large portion of 2026 as well. It is just a bad time in Kansas City right now.
But head coach Andy Reid isn't about to let the season end with a whimper.
“As we go here, we're finding a lot out about some of the young guys are having opportunities to play,” Reid said. “We're going to finish this season strong and with effort, and then you get into the offseason. But I'm always optimistic about going forward."

Reid confirms changes for 2026
With the futures of several star players like Travis Kelce up in the air, and others likely to be questioned, the Chiefs in 2026 will look a little different.
Granted, the franchise has had a superb run over the past eight years, but now, a reset of sorts is coming, and Reid just basically confirmed it.
"Brett Veach does a heck of a job with bringing players in, as you can see now by the guys that are in there playing," Reid added. "It’s our responsibility to clean things up on the coaching side of it, and the players to take responsibility on their end and finish these three games. Then whoever's still here after to retool it.”
So, three games left to give it your all, and then the changes will be coming thick and fast for the Chiefs.
It is hard to plan for a season with Mahomes not likely to be seen for at least the first half of it, so exactly how Kansas City approaches it will be fascinating to see.
But as far as the 2025 season goes, Reid wants everything to stay the same and finish the year with a flurry.
