Chicago Fire season 14 episode 7 recap: Severide investigates a mysterious case of school arson

The seventh episode delved into another mysterious and challenging incident that the Firehouse 51 team had to cover. Fire breaks out in one of the rooms of a high school, with the janitor trapped inside. While the team does not find out about the cause of the fire on the first visit, Severide looks at a mysterious teenager standing outside the school, hinting that he could have some connection with the case.

As Severide and Van Meter investigate the case, they find out that the fire was caused by a coffee maker filled with gasoline. They also get to know more about the teenager Severide had seen on the day of the incident. As they try to speak to the boy, his father stops the two from speaking to his son.

A chip found in the outlet splitter further proved that the coffee maker was remotely turned on to start the fire. They also learnt from the available evidence that Wyatt was not behind it. However, Severide was sure that the boy knew something about the arson case and decided to approach his father once again. It worked in the second go, as Wyatt came forward and told Severide about an online hate group for the principal that could be behind the issue.

While Severide and Van Meter headed to the principal's house to inform him about the situation, the episode ended with a mysterious person lighting the house on fire. Their fate remains unknown and will be picked up in the next episode.

Violet's Joint Duty Program gets picked up for execution at Firehouse 51, with Vasquez becoming the first volunteer. Violet begins training him meticulously, teaching him the basics and essentials that a paramedic must know. Novak, on the other hand, received a day off, with Vasquez replacing her.

Vasquez's firsthand experience at a case comes on the first day during the school fire. The two handle the rescued janitor well, hinting that Vasquez was a promising candidate for the program. Another call brings them to a lady with a serious head injury. Vasquez puts his IV placement skills to use for the first time successfully, helping Violet efficiently in their second case.

As the two head to leave for the day, Vasquez is shocked to see his father out of jail, approaching him at the station to get his car. This upsets Vasquez, who had decided to give up on helping his father after the past episode's revelations. Violet also witnesses the tension between the two and drops Vasquez off at home. She asks him to join her and the rest of the team at Molly's in the evening. He shows up, and the two connect with each other outside of work.
