Chelsea shortlist three strikers ahead of summer transfer window

Chelsea are set for a busy summer transfer window with a number of incomings and outgoings certain to take place at the club.

One area that the Blues will be looking to strengthen in particular is up front, as they are looking to sign a new striker.

Though Nicolas Jackson has been leading the line for Chelsea, he has had an extremely inconsistent season in front of goal and has also faced issues with his disciplinary record.

Jackson’s red card against Newcastle United on Sunday means that he will miss the rest of the season, and Chelsea will be without a recognised striker for the last two league games of the season.

Therefore, it is no surprise that Enzo Maresca will be looking for an alternative to Jackson when the transfer window opens in the summer.

According to a report in the Chelsea Chronicle, Chelsea have highlighted three strikers as potential transfer targets during the upcoming summer transfer window.

The club is looking for a young striker, and Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap is believed to be high on Chelsea’s wishlist, but he is not the only one.

Transfer insider, Greame Bailey, told the Chelsea Chronicle, “Chelsea have been working hard on Delap, they liked him before he even joined Ipswich — they spoke to Man City about him when they signed Cole Palmer.

“They feel he is a good fit for them, but so do Manchester United, and we are told he is leaning towards a move to Old Trafford.”

“Chelsea know the situation, they know that others, particularly United, are keen and they have been working on other options, we know that.”

Chelsea have also looked at the likes of Benjamin Sesko and Samu Aghehowa in the past, so it would not be a surprise to see them make a move for one of them if Delap ends up at United or somewhere else.

In fact, Samu Aghehowa came close to signing for Chelsea during the last summer transfer window before eventually signing for Porto instead, where he is thriving.

In 41 appearances this season, the 21-year-old has scored 24 goals, and Maresca would likely welcome his arrival at Stamford Bridge.
