Chelsea are desperate to improve on their left flank and therefore they are speeding up the process to land a talented left-winger in this summer transfer window. The Blues will be playing in the Champions League next season, and they could really do with a couple of signings this summer.
Therefore, the Blues have identified Borussia Dortmund star Jamie Gittens as their primary target among wingers. Chelsea have taken large strides in pursuit of the 20-year-old as they have already verbally agreed terms with the player, who is set to sign a bumper contract for seven years.
However, Dortmund have rejected Chelsea's initial bid of €35 million. But as per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Blues are preparing to submit an improved offer for Gittens as they are extremely keen on him and Enzo Maresca rates him very highly and feels he can solve Chelsea's issues on the left flank.
The Blues will feature in the Club World Cup, starting later this month and therefore they are desperately to add Gittens to their lineup for the tournament. Meanwhile, Dortmund feel that Gittens is disposable, and they are ready to offload the talented winger.
Gittens is someone who should fit well in Maresca's style of play as he wasn't very happy with Noni Madueke's performances on the left flank and are apparently open to hearing offers for the winger.
As per reports, Chelsea are very close to getting the deal done as the Blues were £5 million short on Dortmund's assessment. The deal is close to completing as performance-based add-ons will be the primary factor in luring the youngster out of Germany.

Who is Borussia Dortmund star Jamie Gittens?
Gittens has been the latest English footballer to develop his playing career at Borussia Dortmund. The youngster featured for several clubs, including Chelsea during his youth days. He eventually spent two years in Manchester City before moving to Dortmund in 2020.
Initially, he featured for Dortmund's youth team and made notable performances in the UEFA Youth League which propelled him into the senior team. He made his Bundesliga debut in April 2022.
The England U-21 international got early exposure to the Champions League and developed into a great young footballer. At only 20 years of age, he is still in the developmental stage, but he finished the 2024/25 season with 12 goals across all competitions.
Gittens is someone who brings tenacity, guile and chance creation on the left flank. He is an exquisite dribbler and a volume crosser, something that will suit Chelsea's style of play especially now they have someone like Liam Delap.
