The Los Angeles Chargers will enter 2026 with renewed optimism, with Justin Herbert now having one of the better play-callers in football.
Mike McDaniel is the new offensive coordinator, and what he could help turn Herbert into is a fascinating thought. But Herbert needs weapons, and perhaps more importantly, he needs protection.
We saw Herbert get lit up all too often in 2025, and that was a big reason for the Chargers' failures, as he was sacked a career-high 54 times.
Well, free agency is approaching, and as CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones writes, the Chargers could look to cash in on Tyler Linderbaum's contract stalemate with the Baltimore Ravens.
"Sources expect he would be a top target for the Chargers if Baltimore can't retain him," Jones wrote.

Chargers could upgrade Herbert's protection
Having time to throw is key for any quarterback, and in Herbert's case, when you are sacked 54 times in a season, you're getting punished routinely.
Some clean pockets could do wonders for Herbert and the Chargers' offense. Plus, it would allow McDaniel to work his magic with Herbert and even help set up the run game as well.
Of course, Linderbaum won't be cheap, at roughly $20 million APY, which is what the three-time Pro Bowler is projected to make.
But if you can make a move that greatly benefits Herbert, while also weakening one of your AFC rivals in the process, you do it as fast as you can.
