California's CIF playoffs get under way Wednesday with the Southern Section taking center stage

California's CIF playoffs tip off Wednesday night with the Southern Section Open Division taking center stage.

Five of the nation's Top 50 teams in the latest edition of the Sporting News high school boys basketball rankings play in California's Southern Section led by the nation's current No. 9 Sierra Canyon [Chatsworth, CA] Trailblazers. Sierra Canyon will be joined in the Southern Section's Open Division Pool A by the Crespi [Encino, CA] Celts and Corona del Mar [Newport Beach, CA] Sea Kings.

Other Top 50 teams from the Golden State competing in the Southern Section bracket include the Notre Dame SO [Sherman Oaks, CA] Knights, Redondo Union [Redondo Beach, CA] Sea Hawks, Santa Margarita [Rancho Santa Margarita, CA] Eagles, and St. John Bosco [Bellflower, CA] Braves.

First-round games tip off at 7 p.m. PST Wednesday night at various locations with Game 2 scheduled for Friday night, February 13, with pool play action wrapping up next Tuesday night, February 17.
