NBA contributors who wish to stick around for the long haul should prioritize maximizing every opportunity they get in the big leagues.
The son of a former Los Angeles Lakers guard and five-time NBA champion did just that with the Boston Celtics, which is the exact reason he earned a multi-year deal with the franchise this summer.
“The Celtics announced today that they have signed guard/forward Ron Harper Jr. to a multi-year contract,” the organization's press release stated.
"Harper Jr., now in his second stint with Boston, progressed through the Celtics organization with an Exhibit 10 contract on Sept. 19, 2025, a two-way contract on Oct. 16, 2025, and a standard NBA contract on April 4. He appeared in 29 games (three starts) for Boston last season, averaging 4.2 points and 1.7 rebounds in 11.0 minutes per game.”
Harper, who bounced around the NBA and G-League a bit before the start of the 2025-26 season, took a positive step toward becoming a dependable bench asset in Year 4. The Rutgers product entered the pros as a respectable spot-up shooter capable of attacking weak closeouts and playing stout perimeter defense.
Harper showed flashes of that with the Celtics, which played a significant role in the storied Eastern Conference franchise’s decision to keep him in the fold. Moving forward, Harper’s primary goal should be to show Boston that it made the right decision to offer him a new contract.
