Brewers replace former Red Sox infielder with 50% strikeout rate outfielder

The Milwaukee Brewers will be without a versatile infielder for a little while. 

On Tuesday, the NL Central club announced that David Hamilton was placed on the 10-day injured list with a strained left hamstring. 

Hamilton left last night's game against the St. Louis Cardinals with hamstring tightness. 

Taking Hamilton's place on the roster is an infielder/outfielder with just 20 Major League apperances. 

Greg Jones, who played 11 games with the Brewers earlier this season, is back with the MLB club. 

"He has been better at the plate in the minor leagues but is still more of a speed-and-defense guy," Darragh McDonald of MLB Trade Rumors wrote about Jones. "Dating back to the start of 2023, he has a .256/.347/.421 line and 94 wRC+ in the minors." 

Jones is more known for his defense than his bat. In 30 trips to the plate with Milwaukee, the Chicago White Sox, and Colorado Rockies, he owns a 50% strikeout rate. 

That's an ugly strikeout rate for Jones, albeit in a small sample size. 

To open a 40-man roster spot for Jones, the Brewers transferred outfielder Brandon Lockridge to the 60-day IL.

Hamilton was acquired from the Boston Red Sox in the six-player deal that sent Caleb Durbin, Andruw Monasterio, and Anthony Siegler to Boston. 

He was originally selected in the eighth round by the Brewers in 2019.
