WNBA fans erupted online after reports that a new basketball league is eyeing Caitlin Clark. Project B, a 5-on-5 women's league backed by $5 billion in funding, has started signing players. The first big name under contract is former WNBA MVP Nneka Ogwumike.

A fan on X, formerly known as Twitter, shared a report by Mohamud Ahmed of TalkSport regarding Project B's interest in Clark. Ahmed reported that the new league has the money to lure players like the Indiana Fever star, as well as her rival Angel Reese, with lucrative contracts.

Ogwumike reportedly signed with Project B, though details of her contract aren't known at this time. Front Office Sports did report that most deals for the league will be around $2 million or higher. It's a significant portion compared to what players are earning in the WNBA, Unrivaled and in other overseas leagues.

"Project B looking to sign Caitlin Clark? They are bringing the BIG BAGS to get the superstar. If it goes through CC might end up being one of the top earning athletes in the world," the fan tweeted.

WNBA fans online have mixed feelings about Project B's reported interest in Caitlin Clark. Some are supportive of the idea, especially with the way the WNBA has treated the Indiana Fever superstar. Others are wary about the alleged Saudi Arabia links of the league.

Here are some of the comments.

CC not going far from that boyfriend. She will rot in Indiana

I hope they pay her $50 million a year and she tells Cathy to shove it.

Hope she doesn't give in the the Saudi blood money, and abandon her fellow females around the world.

I’m not against it, they would treat her better.

F*ck Saudi money for this sh*t! Blood money won't get me to watch sh*t!

Hopefully she plays in that league and it doesn’t interfere with her playing in the WNBA plus she owes the WNBA nothing.I can’t see her turning down possibly $25 million for a few Months plus with the Tv deal that League would get with her apart of it she might get more 💰

Caitlin Clark has not made any basketball commitments this offseason. She's set to play at The ANNIKA next week, with Sophie Cunningham and Lexie Hull serving as her guest caddies. She's been cleared to play in the golf tournament after being limited to just 13 games last season due to multiple muscle-related injuries.

Caitlin Clark inspired by USWNT star growing up

In an interview with Glamour as part of her new partnership with Eli Lilly and Company, Caitlin Clark opened up about the women who shaped her life. One of those women was USWNT legend Mia Hamm, whose book was a source of inspiration growing up.

"The resiliency (Hamm) had, that's the whole story of the book," Clark said. "And what USA women's soccer did for not only, you know, female athletes, but women in general, and how much they brought people together. Like that's just been her ability. It's just really to inspire people and to give back."

Other women who helped and inspired Clark throughout her life include her mother, Anne, former Iowa coach Lisa Bluder and WNBA legend Maya Moore.
