"Awesome Celly Brother": Caitlin Clark Wowed by Ex-Iowa Teammate Stealing Her 3-Point Celebration

Caitlin Clark took notice of the Iowa Hawkeyes’ dominant Sunday afternoon victory after the program shared a photo of one of her former teammates striking a pose that fans of Clark know all too well during a record-setting win.

The Hawkeyes blew out Evansville 119-43 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. According to Hawkeye Sports, the 119 points set both an arena and program record while also marking the largest margin of victory in school history.

When announcing the final score, the Iowa Women’s Basketball Instagram account (@iowawbb) posted a graphic of Jada Gyamfi mimicking Caitlin Clark’s signature 3-point celebration — both hands raised with three fingers extended and her tongue out.

The Indiana Fever star took notice and commented:

“@jadagyamfi awesome celly brother.”

Gyamfi finished with three points — the same triple she celebrated in the now-viral image — and later replied under the post herself:

“Just an all time flick.”

Layla Hays led the Hawkeyes off the bench with 20 points and five rebounds, while Ava Heiden added 14 points and 10 boards, and Chazadi Wright contributed 16 points and 10 assists.

Three more Hawkeyes scored in double figures: Hannah Stuelke with 13 points and six rebounds, Taylor McCabe with 12 points and Addie Deal with 11.

Iowa will next take on Drake on Thursday, Nov. 13, at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, with tipoff set for 8:30 p.m. ET.

Iowa coach discusses program’s rise, the ‘Caitlin Clark effect’

The Iowa women’s basketball team has reached new heights of popularity following Caitlin Clark’s historic run — a stretch that, while falling short of a national title, brought unprecedented attention to the sport.

While recognizing Clark’s impact, assistant coach Abby Emmert Stamp credited the staff’s efforts in marketing and highlighting the entire team’s culture.

“We’re not just telling stories about Caitlin Clark or we’re not just telling stories about Hannah Stuelke. We are telling stories around the circle and around the end of the bench and whatever it may be,” she said (per The Athletic). “I think that is kind of a microcosm for the world, and that is definitely the world Jan Jensen wants to see is where everybody is picking up the person next to them, and we’re all trying to raise the ship together.”

During her four-year Iowa career, Clark played in every game, starting all 139 contests. She became the all-time NCAA Division I scoring leader, averaging 28.4 points, 8.2 assists and 7.1 rebounds in 34.8 minutes per game.
