The Los Angeles Chargers could look a lot different at wide receiver in 2025.
The team used its second-round pick in the NFL draft to select Ole Miss wide receiver Tre Harris. They then used their fifth-round pick on Auburn wide receiver Keandre Lambert-Smith. Those selections could make at least one receiver already on the roster expendable.
Could that player be Quentin Johnston? Between now and the start of the season (and possibly even after the season starts), you are going to hear about the possibility that the Chargers will move their 2023 first-round pick.
Johnston has not been great and though he has found the end zone 10 times in two seasons, he fails to get separation down the field on a consistent basis and he has had some horrendous drops. One game in particular against the Baltimore Ravens last season sticks out.

— GhettoGronk (@TheGhettoGronk) November 26, 2024He looked nothing like a first-round pick in that game and frankly, hasn't looked like one much in his short career thus far.
Landon Holifield of Athlon Sports believes that the Dallas Cowboys should inquire about trading for him for a fourth-round pick.
"If for some reason the Chargers are quietly ready to move on, and the asking price is a fourth-rounder, we already know the Cowboys will be at the front of the line. Because one thing’s become very clear — Dallas is comfortable flipping fourth-round picks for upside. They just did it with Jonathan Mingo and Trey Lance", wrote Holifield.
If the Chargers are able to extract a future fourth-round pick from the Cowboys in exchange for Johnston, based on what they have seen in two full seasons and considering the players they just added in the draft, that's a move the team should make 10 out of 10 times.
Johnston, who was born in Temple, Texas and played his college ball at TCU, may welcome a trade to the Cowboys with open arms.
Could Johnston improve? Sure, but the odds aren't going to be in his favor when the team goes out and adds two exciting, capable rookies. Mike Williams was also brought back in free agency and though he has had his issues with staying healthy, he's familiar with Justin Herbert and capable of giving the team what it brought him in for.
To this point, Johnston has not shown he's capable of doing that and whether you consider him a "bust" or not, his days in L.A. could be numbered.
