Texas A&M defensive end Cashius Howell has an opportunity to finish the 2025 campaign as one of the Aggies best defenders in program history. In the 49-25 victory of LSU the Texas A&M pass rusher has equaled his career high in sacks (9.5) with four games left to play. Through eight games, Howell is averaging over a sack and tackle for loss per game. If those averages hold, he could finish in the neighborhood of 14-15 sacks and 15-16 tackles for loss.
Texas A&M is no stranger to impactful defenders. “Sack leader” is not 'reasonably' within reach. At least not in the regular season. Jacob Green in 1979 registered 20.0 sacks that year. However, a few other notables are within reach. Former Aggie Myles Garrett has 3 games in the program’s top 10 of single game performances with a sack total at or above 3.5 in one game (3.5 vs Nevada, 3.5 vs Louisiana-Monroe, and 4.5 vs UTSA). If Howell can have a Myles Garrett like performance or two, Howell could start jumping up the leaderboard.
A multiple sack day is not outside the realm of possibility for Howell as he’s registered 2.0 sacks or more three times this season (vs Utah State, Mississippi State, and LSU). With four games to go, if Howell were to get even one sack in each of those four, Howell would find himself 8th all time on the single season sack list for Texas A&M. If those four sacks could become six sacks, Howell would have the 3rd best single season for sacks in program history, behind Jacob Green (20.0 in 1979) and Von Miller (17.0 in 2009).
— Texas A&M Football (@AggieFootball) October 27, 2025Texas A&M is the third ranked team in the country with only Missouri, South Carolina, Samford, and Texas remaining. While that is not categorically an easy remaining schedule, it does present opportunities to reach that 14.5-15.5 sack range. To add incentive to the personal accolades, Texas A&M is expected to make a playoff run. If he can hit that 14.5-15.5 range within the regular season, Howell could use the playoff to make a run at Von Miller’s 17.0 sacks in one season.
Howell and the Texas A&M Aggies welcome No. 19 Missouri to College Station. That game will kickoff next Saturday at 3:30pm eastern, broadcasting on ABC.
