Cardinals trade rumor could result in deal with Packers or Eagles

The Arizona Cardinals appeared in the headlines on Thursday for a surprising reason.

According to a report from Packers Report’s Easton Butler, the franchise’s standout edge rusher, Josh Sweat, has requested a trade from the Cardinals.

“Cardinals EDGE Josh Sweat has requested a trade this week,” Butler stated on X/Twitter. “The Packers and Eagles are both reportedly interested in him. Philly is trying to find another star on the DL, after losing (Jaelan) Phillips to Carolina (Panthers)."

Sweat is no stranger to the Eagles, as the 28-year-old spent the first seven seasons of his career in Philadelphia. During Sweat’s 2024-25 Super Bowl campaign with the Eagles, the elusive 6-foot-5 pass rusher recorded 27 solo tackles, 14 assisted tackles, and eight sacks.

The Eagles let Sweat walk in free agency, though, prompting him to sign a four-year contract with the Cardinals before the start of the 2025-26 campaign.

The Florida State product was electric in his first year with the Cardinals, finishing with a career-high 12 sacks to go with 30 solo tackles, 10 assisted tackles, and four forced fumbles in 17 outings. Still, Sweat appears unhappy in his current situation in Arizona, which could open the door for a reunion with the Eagles.

How aggressively will Philadelphia pursue Sweat on the trade market this offseason? That remains unclear, but according to Butler’s report, the interest is certainly there.
