Running back Alvin Kamara's future with the New Orleans Saints has never been more uncertain.
Kamara is coming off the worst season of his career in 2025 and has been on the decline over the last few years. As a result, the Saints signed Travis Etienne to a four-year deal in free agency, and could also have their eye on a running back in April's draft.
Tony Pauline of Essentially Sports reports that people he spoke to at Arkansas' Pro Day believe New Orleans could select running back Mike Washington Jr. in the second round of the draft and cut ties with Kamara.
"The Buffalo Bills, New Orleans Saints, Arizona Cardinals, and New York Giants sent scouts specifically to watch [Mike] Washington. The Saints are a team to watch, as people at the workout tell me they could draft Washington in the second round, then trade or cut Alvin Kamara," Pauline said.
If New Orleans takes a running back on Day 1 or 2 in April, that would certainly put the nail in the coffin of the Kamara era.
Before potentially cutting him, the Saints would be wise to assess Kamara's value on the trade market, and the Seattle Seahawks, New York Giants, and Minnesota Vikings could be among the teams interested.
Seattle lost Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker to the Kansas City Chiefs in free agency, and though Kamara wouldn't be able to fill the void left by Walker, he would certainly be an upgrade over Emmanuel Wilson.
As for New York and Minnesota, running back isn't a pressing need, but both franchises could look to take a flyer on Kamara and add another potential impact piece to their backfields.
Kamara's best days are behind him, but the five-time Pro Bowler can still be a solid starter in the right situation. We'll see where the 30-year-old ends up playing in 2026, as his departure from New Orleans seems more likely than ever.
