Cardinals shockingly draft Kyler Murray replacement in latest mock draft

1 hour ago 2

The Arizona Cardinals made the decision everyone was expecting this offseason when they parted ways with Kyler Murray.

But in doing so, a gap was created at quarterback.

That gap has been filled with veterans Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew. Neither are needle-movers.

However, that group doesn't seem completely set in stone, does it?

With the NFL Draft coming up in a few weeks, we are seeing mock drafts fly off the shelves, and NFL.com's Charles Davis, in his latest mock draft, shockingly has the Cardinals taking Alabama's quarterback Ty Simpson at No. 3.

"Last year, I opined in one of my early mocks that Jaxson Dart would go to the Giants with the third overall pick, but I didn't stick with the pairing as the process unfolded," Davis wrote. "Dart, of course, ultimately ended up with New York after Big Blue traded back into the first round and selected the quarterback at No. 25. This year, I think Simpson ends up with the Cardinals, even if this is not the spot where they pick him."

Is Simpson the right move?

Well, if the Cardinals truly believe that he is "their guy," then he is the right choice.

Granted, not many mock drafts have Simpson going high at all, and some don't even have him going in the first round, so at No. 3 might be a big reach.

But if, and that's a big if, Arizona did make this move, it would want to be absolutely sure that he is the team's next franchise star.

Taking a quarterback at No. 3 means you are getting the guy for the next 10-15 years at the position.

Is that Simpson? I'm not so sure.
