The No. 4 Arkansas Razorbacks and No. 1 Arizona Wildcats are set to clash in the Sweet 16 on Thursday night from the SAP Center in San Jose, Calif.
The Wildcats have not given much doubt to college basketball fans in the first two rounds. They cruised to a 92-58 win over the No. 16 LIU Sharks in the Round of 64. While No. 9 Utah State gave them a run for their money at times during the Round of 32 game, and even brought the game to within four points with five minutes to go in the second half, Arizona held strong and finished the job.

John Calipari and the Razorbacks enter Thursday’s game without facing a single-digit seed. They handled No. 13 Hawaii 97-78 in the opening round and ended No. 12 High Point’s brief Cinderella run in the Round of 32 with a 94-88 win. The Panthers briefly led in the second half but proved to be no match for freshman star Darius Acuff Jr., who delivered the highest-scoring performance of this year’s NCAA tournament with 36 points while shooting 50% from the field.
Across his 34-year coaching career, this marks Calipari’s 17th Sweet 16 appearance. He holds a 12-4 record in the round after the Razorbacks fell to No. 3 Texas Tech 85-83 in overtime in last year’s tournament. Calipari is seeking his 13th Elite Eight appearance. On the other side, Tommy Lloyd has led the Wildcats to the NCAA Tournament in all five of his seasons as head coach. This will be his fourth Sweet 16 appearance with Arizona, where he is 0-3. Lloyd will look to break through and lead the Wildcats to their first Elite Eight since 2015.
Arizona is currently favored by 7.5 points against Arkansas, making it the second-largest spread among Sweet 16 matchups (No. 1 Michigan is favored by 9.5 points over No. 4 Alabama).
