Canucks players get real on looming Tyler Myers NHL trade deadline move

1 hour ago 5

It is very evident that the Vancouver Canucks are having a rebuilding year in the 2025-26 NHL season. They only have 18 wins so far and usually this means that Coach Adam Foote will have to build a new culture around the existing talent in the roster. However, this squad will have to part with Tyler Myers and it has been increasingly obvious as the NHL trade deadline approaches. Players like Brock Boeser and Tom Willander seem half-hearted about the call.

Vancouver roster unleashes emotions amid Myers NHL trade deadline rumors

The Canucks may have not yet finalized a trade for Myers but they made it increasingly obvious that he is getting traded. In fact, the defenseman could not play against the Winnipeg Jets due to 'roster management' reasons. Clearly, everyone in Coach Foote's locker room feels that the move is coming and no one is more vocal about it than Boeser, via Iain MacIntyre of Sportsnet.

"He’s such a big voice in the room. He’s a big leader and losing him will suck. He’s such a good guy, a great guy for the young guys and everyone around the rink. Personally, I think he deserves the chance to go win a Cup and just hope he chooses the right team. We know what’s going to happen; it’s the position we’re in. They’re going to move guys and get what they can. So, yeah, it sucks but it’s part of the business," Boeser said about the 36-year-old.

Throughout Myers' 17-year career, he has been playing under the Canucks the longest. His seven-season run has seen him score 26 goals while also dishing out 112 assists. More than that, his defensive prowess has also been impeccable as evidenced by 826 blocks and 660 hits alongside an insane 185 takeaways. Clearly, a lot of the young Canucks wanted to learn from him but their time with him will get cut short.

Willander posits that he has learned from him the most.

"If he ends up being traded, it will definitely be a missing piece in the locker room, for sure. It’s not just the knowledge he provides, but he’s also a great person in the locker room, you know? On the ice, he helps with stuff and gives me tips. But I think he’s a great person off the ice, too, and the more people you have like that in the locker room, the better. So it would definitely be a missing piece," the 20-year-old Canucks defenseman declared.

There is still no clear NHL trade deadline destination for Myers. One thing is for sure, he will get an emotional homecoming game once he faces the Canucks at any point in the coming months.
