Cole Caufield continues to prove that he's one of the best goal scorers in the NHL.
In the process, he made Montreal Canadiens history that hasn't been achieved since before he was born.
On Tuesday night, Caufield recorded his 40th goal of the season.
Making it even more special -- it was the overtime game-winner to defeat the Boston Bruins:

Caufield's previous career-best for goals in a season was 37.
Most notable about this goal, though, was that round number: 40.
A Canadiens player hadn't gotten to the 40-goal mark in a season in 32 years. Vincent Damphousse had exactly 40 in the 1994 season.
The closest anyone had come since was Max Pacioretty in 2013-14, when he finished the season with 39 goals.
Caufield's career year has Montreal holding on tight to a playoff position, although without a ton of breathing room.
If he can keep putting the puck in the back of the net down the stretch, it'll go a long way toward ensuring the Canadiens can indeed make it into the postseason.
