Cleveland Browns reportedly not interested in making trade for recent No. 4 overall pick, 23-year-old quarterback

The Cleveland Browns have been linked to a wide range of quarterback options over the past few offseasons, from established veterans to younger, high-upside players.

With uncertainty about the position continuing to be an issue, rumors have been rampant about the direction the franchise could take next.

One name that recently surfaced in rumors was Anthony Richardson, a former top draft pick with elite athletic tools and long-term potential. Given Cleveland’s search for an answer under center, the idea of taking a chance on a young quarterback makes sense.

However, that possibility appears to be little to none. According to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, the Browns never seriously explored the idea of acquiring Richardson, despite others suggesting so.

“They’re not trading for Richardson, despite widespread rumors during the first week of free agency that they’d pursue him, sources say,” Cabot reported. “It’s never been a serious consideration for them, although they usually do their due diligence on available veterans to see if it’s a fit. But Richardson was never in their plans, and the rumors were unfounded.”

Cabot’s reporting makes it clear that while Cleveland continues to look at quarterback options, Richardson was never viewed as a realistic addition. Instead, the organization appears committed to its current roster.
