Can 1 free agency signing solve Chiefs' major problem?

1 hour ago 2

The Kansas City Chiefs last season not only struggled to run the ball consistently, but they also didn't have many big runs.

As such, defenses didn't respect the run, which allowed them to sit back and prey on the passing game as Patrick Mahomes was forced to air it out.

Now, with Kenneth Walker in their ranks, the Chiefs at least have a capable back who can pick up yards consistently, but also, if he sees an opening, can hit his head on the goal post on any given play.

But for CBS Sports' Jared Dubin, how Walker influences the Chiefs' rushing attack is going to be a major watch.

"The Chiefs' offense over the last few years has had a major problem: it's been unable to create explosive plays," Dubin wrote. "Enter Walker, who is an explosive run waiting to happen. The marriage between Walker's ability to find the home run and the Chiefs' ability to grind out short and medium gains should be a fascinating one to watch."

Walker a game-changer for Kansas City

Having struggled mightily last season, now the Chiefs get one of the best backs in football, coming off his best-ever year.

With Eric Bieniemy now taking over the offensive coordinator role, along with having Andy Reid calling the plays, what Walker could do for this offense is interesting.

Mahomes and the passing game won't be forced to carry the offense week in, week out. Instead, if needed, Reid can lean on Walker and the run game to grind down opponents and allow Mahomes to pick up easy yards through the air as a result.

So, while some still think the Chiefs might be so-so on offense, make no mistake, they could be rather explosive if Walker gets rolling.
