Former NFL quarterback Cam Newton was laid off by ESPN on Tuesday. This was part of a recent round of layoffs by the sports media company that also included Ryan Clark, Stephania Bell, and NFL Network newsbreaker Tom Pelissero.
Newton was a common debate partner for Stephen A. Smith on “First Take” over the last two years, where he was never afraid to mince words. And the former NFL MVP didn’t mince words with a motivational video he posted on Instagram Tuesday morning, right before news of his firing broke.
“Today’s topic is simple, but it’s straightforward: Stop being a p***!” Newton started the video by saying. “Stop avoiding the hard, you know what I’m saying? Stop avoiding the journey that you know is gonna help you the most. Lock in!”
Newton then took his shirt off while asserting that he has been back in the gym. “Bro, I wake up at 4:45 to make it to a 5:30 boot camp class. After that class, I go get content. After content, I steam, I stretch. After that, I lift. Heavy!”
He later added, “Everybody who is successful, everybody you look up to, has done something tough that required them to do it tough… So yes, I mean it when I say, ‘You’re a p****!'”
Newton then put on an outfit that included jean shorts, a Nikola Jokic NBA All-Star jersey, a bowtie, a denim jacket, and one of his signature flat-brimmed hats with pins on them.
Essentially, Newton is saying that people need to be more comfortable doing difficult things, and take accountability in their lives when they aren’t doing enough of those things.
This R-rated advice might hit home for Newton right now, given that he has to take accountability for his next steps after being laid off by ESPN.
