Bully Ray has shared his thoughts on a controversial WWE title change. On the December 16 episode of NXT, Blake Monroe put her Women's North American championship on the line against Thea Hail.

The finish of the match came when Hail hit a Springboard Back Senton on the champion and went for a cover. The referee counted to three as Monroe failed to get her shoulder up on time. However, this was not the planned finish, leading to confusion and chaos once the match abruptly ended.

The Glamour was supposed to kick out and eventually retain the title. According to reports, she had the wind knocked out of her after the Back Senton and couldn't get her shoulder up when needed. While Hail celebrated her win, there has been much debate and discussion over her win.

Hall of Famer Bully Ray addressed the issue on Busted Open After Dark. He said Hail's win was fair and there were no mistakes.

“As far as I’m concerned, and from what we saw tonight, Thea Hail beat Blake Monroe fair and square. There were no mistakes. The referee didn’t screw up. Thea beat Blake.”

Bully then talked about the segment this week on NXT where Thea Hail cut a promo about her title win and Monroe interrupted her, asking for the championship to be returned to her. The tag team legend said the entire segment worked well with the story.

He then mentioned that WWE should leave the title change as it is and said it was a clear win for Hail.

"If Blake defeats Thea Hail at New Year's Evil, you're kind of just reinforcing the perception that is out there about the finish of the match from last week. Because the perception was something went wrong. Something went awry. Something wasn't right. And now they're trying to fix it. Don't fix it. Leave it alone. I think it's really good. I think you run with it. I think there's a definitive victory from Thea Hail," he added.

WWE NXT locker room was shocked with the title change

With the unexpected finish to the Women's North American title match, there was a scramble backstage at WWE NXT. Since the brand had wrapped up filming for the year, the creative had already finalized plans for the next few weeks.

Moreover, there was a feeling of shock among talent backstage. In an interview with Going Ringside, NXT and Evolve star Kendal Grey said that people in the locker room were left speechless with the unexpected result of the contest.

It now remains to be seen whether WWE decides to put the title back on Blake Monroe at New Year's Evil.
