Josh Giddey has only played for the Bulls one season, but he's already made himself at home
The do-it-all guard averaged 15 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists for Chicago and could have more to offer in year two with the team.
He notched seven triple doubles and five of them came in the final month of the season. It boosted the Australian's value during the final fully guaranteed year of his rookie contract.
He's a restricted free agent, which means the Bulls will have the right to match any salary he's offered, but how much could Giddey fetch on the open market?
John Hollinger of The Athletic created a list of the top 25 NBA free agents entering the offseason. Giddey landed fifth on the list, above players like Myles Turner, Julius Randle, and Naz Reid.
The article predicted that Giddey should fetch at least $100 million over four years, $25 million annually.
Hollinger uses a valuation system called "BORD$" that estimates value based on analytics and playing time data. That algorithm evaluated Giddey at almost $35 million annually.
"He is unusually young for a player in this position. Despite having played for four years, Giddey won't turn 23 until October," Hollinger wrote. "Thus, his accomplishments to date on a rookie contract must be seen in the context of players who are usually at least a year or two older by this point in their NBA careers."
It's an intriguing case for Giddey, who has never made an All-Star team, to receive a pay raise that would require him to play like the best player on a competitive team.
— NBA (@NBA) March 28, 2025The Australian was traded for Alex Caruso last offseason. While he led the Bulls to the play-in tournament, Caruso and his old team made it to the NBA Finals.
If Giddey is signed to a deal like what Hollinger is predicting, he'll have to take Chicago to higher heights than one playoff game.
