Whenever a Milwaukee Bucks trade rumor surfaces, it’s reasonable to assume it involves two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo.
There's no question that Antetokounmpo will be the alluring target on the offseason trade market, and if the Bucks receive the perfect offer for the 10-time All-Star, a new era of Milwaukee basketball will officially be underway.
However, other Bucks contributors could attract attention this summer, and according to NBA reporter Evan Sidery, two-time blocks leader Myles Turner is one of them.
“Rival executives believe the Bucks will also shop Myles Turner in trade talks this summer,” Sidery wrote on X/Twitter Tuesday. “Turner, who was brought on as a win-now fit alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo, will make $83.6 million combined over the next three seasons.”
The Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors should be intrigued with the thought of acquiring Turner this offseason. As good as Anthony Davis was with the Lakers for 5.5 seasons, he never shot the ball well enough from beyond the arc to be considered a true stretch five like Turner, and Deandre Ayton didn’t attempt a three with the 17-time NBA champions this year.
Although the Kristaps Porzingis skill set is similar to Turner’s, his health will be a significant concern moving forward, which will likely result in the Warriors allowing the 7-foot-2 big man to walk in free agency.
Though not a great rebounder, Myles’ impressive durability (he’s competed in 60+ regular-season contests for four consecutive seasons), reliable pick-and-pop production, solid face-up game, consistent shot-blocking chops, and NBA Finals experience would make him a viable frontcourt addition for both Western Conference franchises.
Turner averaged 11.9 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game with the Bucks this year, shooting 44.0% from the field and 38.3% from deep. If the Bucks prove to be serious about shopping Turner around the league, the Lakers and Warriors should get on the phone with the 2021 NBA champions immediately.
