The Miami Heat have a colossal decision to make in the next few months.
To keep Jimmy Butler on the team, or to trade Butler, that is the question.
If Miami does decide to deal Butler, it won’t be starved for suitors. The Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets would likely put offers on the table for Butler; as would others.
But what if the 4-6 Heat turn things around before February and decide that another playoff run or two with Jimmy is in the cards?
In that case, Miami exec Pat Riley would be looking to upgrade in blockbuster fashion.
Enter the Milwaukee Bucks, who are in shambles but want to avoid trading the better (and younger) of their two megastars if one of them must go.
Milwaukee could walk away with a bountiful package of talent by offering Lillard to Miami, as pointed out by Bleacher Report’s Andy Bailey in a new report released Friday.
Bailey proposed the following deal:
“Damian Lillard and Delon Wright for Tyler Herro, Duncan Robinson, Nikola Jović and a 2031 top-three protected first-round pick.”
“(Miami’s) title window might not be open long, but it'd certainly be open with Lillard, Butler, Bam Adebayo and Spoelstra in place,” Bailey said.
“And in that case, the front office might be willing to dangle much (or all) of the package it did for Damian Lillard back when the star guard was still with the Portland Trail Blazers.”
“For the Milwaukee Bucks, this probably only makes sense if the losses keep piling up with what looks like an old, slow and uninspired core around Giannis Antetokounmpo.”
“This deal would make the Bucks deeper, younger (Tyler Herro is only 24) and more versatile. Nikola Jović is exactly the kind of stretch 4 who makes sense next to point Giannis. And if the two-time MVP is attacking a floor spaced out by Herro, Jović and Duncan Robinson, it'd be harder for opposing defenses to collapse on his drives.”
