NBA Legend hints at the idea of joining OKC Thunder in lieu of Holmgren injury

Many fans of the Oklahoma City Thunder had extremely high expectations heading into this 2024/25 season. Whether it was the media hyping up the development of Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren or highlighting how much the team upgraded in the offseason, people felt this would be OKC's year.

However, in their Sunday, Nov. 10 matchup against the Golden State Warriors, all of those hopes went down the drain. With star center Chet Holmgren suffering a rare hip injury, the Thunder are now tasked with playing without any center for quite some time... or are they?

NBA Legend likes idea of playing with OKC

On a recent episode of Timberwolves and Celtics legend Kevin Garnett's podcast, 'All the Smoke Productions', he sat down with former Lakers center Dwight Howard and discussed a variety of different topics.

One such topic being the OKC Thunder and their big man problem. In the midst of the discussion, Howard can be seen looking right at the camera (or audience) with quite the statement towards Loud City:

OKC. Your boy. Is ready. What's happening?

With Garnett hyping of the idea, Howard was of course alluding to the fact that he is ready to come back to the NBA and help out the OKC Thunder. He would later go on to say that OKC needs a veteran big man that not only brings the energy, but that can also play elite defense alongside the Thunder's superstars.

While the idea may seem far-fetched, it is somewhat plausible. Back in the bubble season, the Los Angeles Lakers won the 2019/2020 NBA Finals, a team that not only had Howard, but current Thunder guard Alex Caruso.

Howard would not only have that connection and championship experience, but would easily fit into the culture and chemistry of the team given his personality.

While Howard has probably not picked up the rock in a while given he just came off of his run with the television show Dancing With the Stars, being able to sign a multi-time DPOY for the minimum until the main OKC centers get back may be a blessing in disguise.
