The worst was feared as soon as Damian Lillard went to the ground.
A non-contact injury that appeared to be to his lower left leg presented as one of the most disastrous injuries an NBA player can suffer.
And less than a half hour after Lillard went down, league insider Chris Haynes shared that news.
Haynes wrote, per his sources: "The fear is Bucks star Damian Lillard suffered a left Achilles tear. Brutal circumstance after working himself back from a blood clot diagnosis that kept him out over a month."
Lillard went down with a non-contact injury to his lower left leg during the first quarter against the Indiana Pacers on Sunday night.
You can watch video of the injury here.
Lillard was trying to set his feet to chase after an offensive rebound, but he stumbled as the injury appeared to occur as he tried to plant his left foot and move forward. Lillard grabbed at his left ankle/heel area.

The NBA legend then just sat on the floor, almost as if he knew his fate.
When trainers helped Lillard off the floor, he hopped along without putting any weight on his left leg at all.
What this means to the future of the Bucks is a worry for another day.

Sunday night, Lillard's fate is the only thing that should be on NBA minds.
It's heartbreaking for him to have worked his way back from Deep Vein Thrombosis only for this to happen.
Lillard won't be playing basketball for a long time, it appears. And that's a sad, upsetting shame.
