Bruce Pearl duped by fake post on Miami (OH) coach Travis Steele taking a new job

Bruce Pearl can't keep himself away from anything related to Miami (OH). But this one might be the best example to let it be. 

The former Auburn coach, who was added to this year's March Madness coverage for CBS and TNT, got caught up by a fake news report. An X account named Markus Walters posted on Monday night that Miami head coach Travis Steele was on the move. 

"An agreement has been reached between Miami Head Coach Travis Steele and Butler, per source. Steele will finish the NCAA Tournament with Miami and then will become the head coach at Butler, his Alma Mater," the post stated.

The so-called report came after the account broke the news that Punxsutawney Phil emerged as the leading candidate for the Miami Dolphins head coaching job. To say Pearl should've checked to see if this was real is an understatement. He jumped on the fake post and gushed with excitement.

"Great Hire! Known Travis since his AAU days in Indy," Pearl wrote. "Butler was our biggest rival when I was at Wisconsin Milwaukee. Mad respect for the school, their basketball tradition and the kids that go to school there! I'm a very proud evil stepmother!" 

The best part is Pearl tagged the accounts for TNT Sports and CBS Sports in the process.

Aaron Ferguson of the IndyStar heard from a Butler source: “A Butler spokesperson confirms that this (parody account Bruce quote tweeted) is ‘not correct.'”

Steele hasn't announced any such move, and right now isn't the best time at all. The RedHawks are getting ready for the First Four in the NCAA Tournament on Tuesday night.  

As for Pearl, maybe he can find someone to run his social media during the tournament to keep him away for mishaps.
