The Cleveland Browns landed their new head coach earlier this week.
It's Todd Monken, most recently the offensive coordinator of the Baltimore Ravens.
A lot of guys hired as NFL head coaches have been in the pros for a while and don't have a ton of college links, but Monken is an exception.
From 2020 through 2022, Monken was the offensive coordinator at the University of Georgia. He won two national titles there.
He also coached Carson Beck there.
And as a means of showing just how long players stay in college now, Beck is just heading into the pool for the 2026 NFL Draft.

Beck didn't start at all during Monken's time, only having his two full seasons as a starter in 2023 and 2024 after Monken left.
In 2020, Beck got into just one game and didn't attempt a pass.
In 2021, Beck was 10-for-23 for 176 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.
In 2022, Beck went 26-for-35 for 310 yards, four TDs and no picks.
He then had two strong seasons for the Bulldogs as a starter, then played the 2025 season at the University of Miami, reaching the national championship game.

Beck is expected to be a mid-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, someone the Browns could target if they so choose. Monken would certainly have some familiarity with him.
Cleveland, of course, chose Dillon Gabriel in the third round and Shedeur Sanders in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Another mid-round QB seems like an unlikely outcome.
But if there's any NFL head coach who will have a real feel for Beck's potential, it might just be Monken.
